focus for the september equinox

Make a commitment this month to gain balance in your life, where the energy that flows out of you is matched by what you receive. Where the people in your life give to you from their heart and treat you with love, respect and consideration. Set your intention for and insist on being with like-minded people who appreciate you for who you are and release those who do not. Then allow yourself to know what it means to feel the peace, joy and clarity that comes with being in balance with your own energy and claim the miracles that are yours for the asking.

destiny vs. karma

I am teaching a class on Metaphysics and our recent topic is Karma. To me, one of the formost leaders in this field is Dick Sutphen. In the early days of my traveling along this path, I went to so many of his seminars. He is the one person I feel who has researched karma the most. He also has very grounded suggestions for dealing with whatever bumps one comes upon.

Last Friday I received his weekly news letter. It is 50% advertising and 50% written advice. Somehow it always seems to be relavent to the times.

THE PURPOSE OF EXPERIENCE

New Age thinking today relates primarily to H.P. Blavatsky’s Theosophy movement of the late 1800s. I have always encouraged my Professional Hypnotist Training graduates to study the writings of Blavatsky, Annie Besant and C.W. Leadbeater so they will fully understand the roots of their belief system and how to deal with unique situations one can encounter when directing past-life regressions. Modern Theosophy is a synthesis of occultism, Buddhism, and the essential truths of religion, science and philosophy.

In “Theosophy Simplified” (1979) by Irving S. Cooper, the author speaks of the purpose of experience: “We measure life by false standards, by pleasure and pain and not by growth. If life is pleasant we bless destiny, if unpleasant, we curse it, never considering in either case whether we grow through the experiences which come. Destiny is Nature’s plan of education; she is not trying to please us, to kill time, to furnish a continual round of pleasure; she is endeavoring to teach us. That is why we must work, endure hardships, struggle for what we get. Rugged lessons truly, but wonderfully effective in their results, for such teaching as we receive on earth produces strong men and brave women, not weaklings. Even though lives are spent in learning lessons, they are eventually mastered, for in this world-school are no failures.

“Destiny, however, offers many problems, and the greatest of them all is to find the cause of the fate which brings us to our parents, determines our opportunities, gauges our faculties and molds our lives.”

Cooper goes on to explain various views of destiny, but as I conclude in my new book, “Soul Agreements,” destiny is based upon our karma. He says, “… man, an immortal soul, is the molder and master of his own destiny, because he has started and will start all the forces which mold the circumstances in which he lives. This is the point of view accepted and taught by Theosophy.

“It tells us that no one is to blame except ourselves for our birth conditions, our character, our opportunities, our abilities, for all these things are due to the working of forces we have set going either in this life or in former lives. Thus all existing conditions are due either to the immediate or remote past, because, to use a luminous simile of St. Paul, we are reaping the harvests which have grown from seed we have sown before – ‘Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he reap.’

“Karma is not fatalistic in the slightest. Fatalism always implies that we are bound on an iron wheel of circumstances from which no effort of our own can free us. Karma, on the contrary, says that while in truth we are bound by what we have done in the past, yet each moment we live we are molding and modifying the future by the decisions and choices we make. Free-will certainly does not mean that we are free to change the conditions of nature in any way that our whims may dictate, but that we are free to choose what we shall do WITHIN those conditions.

“One of the conditions of nature is, that when we choose, we must abide by the result of our choice. In this way we learn wisdom. If we decide to jump off a wall, it does not stop our fall for one instant, to wish, when we are halfway down, that we were on top again. If we jump off we must strike bottom — a cause is always followed by its effect. We are wise we think before we jump.”

how a pluto transit can transform

After I returned from California a friend and I re-checked my relocation chart. We had both missed the critical change in my rising sign to 3 Aquarius – in exact opposition to my 5 Pluto in Leo (ouch).

Pluto is the planet of transformation. While Saturn says ‘you should’, Pluto says ‘you will’. There are no options. I was really living the life of ‘I should’ while in California. I kept thinking that if I did this, then that should happen. And frequently it did not. I found many stumbling blocks (some of my own making).

Finally I said ‘OK god, I give up’. and all of a sudden miracles happened. I sold my condo and car in one day, friends helped me pack, another friend let me store my kitchen and other smaller stuff in a garage. I was ‘outta’ there in 12 days. Headed to SC to live with my mother and father for a time, while I got my health back. Mom made chicken soup and other things she thought would make me better. Read the rest of this entry

a lesson in syncronicity

Today I recieved an e-mail from
The Marketing Minute
by Marcia Yudkin, Marketing Expert and Mentor

http://www.yudkin.com/markmin.htm

Talk about syncronicity – here is her post

You’ve slaved over your product and your marketing copy – or over a blog post, position paper or proposal.
Your audience – not just one person, but a chorus of four or five – offers a response that’s radically off the mark.
One of two reactions is very common:
* “Ouch!” You withdraw, lick your wounds and sulk.
* “You’re wrong!” A vigorous counterattack ensues.
Hard as this might be, don’t take the feedback as a personal failure or evidence that people are hasty readers, sloppy thinkers or downright stupid.
Instead, communication has failed. Communication has a sender and a receiver. Consider therefore that you are 50 percent responsible for the misfire.
Take a deep breath and turn on your curiosity:
* What did you say or do – or not say or do – that led to that impression?
* What can you change or add to help people receive your message as intended? If it’s too late to modify what went out, learn for next time.
Getting upset or angry about feedback is natural. I’ve been there, too. Transcend that, though, and your marketing gets better and better.

I have been ‘attempting’ to be a content writer on a talent agency’s blog. I got a note earlier this week saying, ‘ The blog posts of ***** agency have a required word range of xxx-xxx words. Both the blog posts you have done are below the minimum range. [communication - I forgot this requirement]

It has also been pointed out that no creativity is being shown in the posts Can you please address these problems in the current and future posts? You can use the previous posts as a guide for style’. [ahh, creativity is definitely in the eye of the beholder - I need to find some]

Thank heavens for Marcia’s e-mail today. I had withdrawn – not to sulk, but feeling not my best. I will move along now and learn from my mistakes.

So often we drop back into our old thoughts / patterns. I was very happy to recieve a cosmic prod.

answered prayers

It has been extremely hot this summer. The home I bought about 7 years ago had a ceiling fan in the living room. In this heat, it was very much appreciated. Until a few weeks ago. I pulled the chain to start the fan spinning and – nothing, NADA, no way was that chain going to move. As the heat built up in my living room, so did my wishes.

Now I have never liked this fan, I did appreciate it though. It wobbled, it made a whoppa-whoppa noise that got worse the higher the speed. So even though it might only need a new switch, I decided this was the universes way of telling me to buy a new one. I went to Home Depot and found just what I wanted and brought it home.

I knew that my younger brother planned to visit soon and I said some prayers to various saints in hopes that he might help me install it. As you can figure it out, I needed more than help. I know nothing about electricity.

From the title of this post you already know that my prayers were answered. Even though he had to cut his visit short, he had time to help big sis. I now have a lovely, quiet fan in my living room and the air is circulating once again. We also had a really nice visit.

What I see happening more and more is that as we focus on a need or goal, we are able to bring that thing to fruition. Is this because of prayers, meditation, or our own energetic growth?  Frequently I think that all three come into play.

children’s peace pledge

I was at a gathering of spiritual souls on Thursday evening and a teacher in the group (from an alternative school) mentioned the children starting the day with the Peace Pledge and the Character Pledge (below). I searched for them on the net and decided to include them here. It would be wonderful if more schools chose to add these to the start of their day. Withought the thought, the action does not take place.

School Pledge of Nonviolence

Making peace must start within ourselves and in our school. Each of us, members of _________________ School, on this day, ______________, 20__, commit ourselves as best we can to become nonviolent and peaceable people.

To Respect Self and Others
To respect ourselves, to affirm others and to avoid uncaring criticism,
hateful words, physical attacks and self-destructive behavior.

To Communicate Better
To share our feelings honestly, to look for safe ways to express our anger,
and to work at solving problems peacefully.

To Listen
To listen carefully to one another, especially those who disagree with us,
and to consider others’ feelings and needs rather than insist on having our own way.

To Forgive
To apologize and make amends when we have hurt another,
to forgive others, and to keep from holding grudges.

To Respect Nature
To treat the environment and all living things,
including our pets, with respect and care.

To Play Creatively
To select activities and toys that support our school’s values and to avoid
activities that make violence look exciting, funny or acceptable.

To Be Courageous
To challenge violence in all its forms whenever we encounter it, whether at home, at school, or in the community, and to stand with others who are treated unfairly.

This is our pledge. These are our goals. We will check ourselves on what we have pledged once a month on the _____________ day of the month for this school year so that we can help each other become more peaceable people.

“Eliminating violence, one school at a time, starting with our own.”
